Grade Eight Prayers, Basic Beliefs, and Practices
Prayer of St. Francis/Prayer for Peace
Lord,
make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where
there is doubt, faith; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I
may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life.
The Magnificat (Mary’s Prayer)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my
spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations
will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. He has mercy on those who
fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise
of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever. Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads
me; he refreshes my soul. He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark
valley, I fear no evil; for you are at my side. With your rod and staff that give me courage. You spread the table
before me in the sight of my foes; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and kindness follow
me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come.
Confiteor
I
confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters that I have sinned through my own fault, in my thoughts and in
my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do. And I ask Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, all the angels and
saints, and you my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive
us our sins and bring us to life everlasting. Amen.
